NON-food stalls at Keighley Market are being closed in the battle to slow the spread of coronavirus.

And fresh-food traders at the Low Street site are being asked to adhere to strict guidelines, including washing or sanitising their hands after every transaction and ensuring their customers stand at least two metres apart in queues.

Bradford Council is also closing non-food stalls at the Oastler Centre in the city, and shutting Kirkgate Market.

Market rents and service charges are being suspended and businesses are being offered public health advice and support.

Council staff are liaising with stallholders to co-ordinate the closures.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, portfolio holder for regeneration, planning and transport, said: “It is vitally important we do everything we can to reduce the spread of coronavirus while maintaining critical supplies, including food. We ask that all retailers please encourage customers to maintain social distancing and put into action important advice around cleanliness and sanitation.”
