A KEIGHLEY restaurant delivered a treat to staff in Airedale Hospital’s emergency department.
Nick Risidi, from Amici’s, took round a dozen free pizzas – leaving them outside the entrance – to help hard-pressed staff through the nightshift.
He had been contacted by a friend – Mathew Hirst – who was wanting to send some pizzas to his sister-in-law, an Accident & Emergency worker.
“We agreed to send them a dozen and split the cost,” said Nick.
“My aunt is a nurse in Pontefract, so I know how hard they work and what pressure they’re under.
“We plan to repeat it. It’s just to show our appreciation for their hard work and an acknowledgement of the dangers they face – hopefully it will inspire other restaurants to do the same.”
Dr Alexandra Danecki, consultant in emergency medicine at Airedale Hospital, said staff were hugely grateful.
She added: “This was a very kind donation. We are working extremely hard, and having the chance to snatch five minutes and a slice of pizza was a great morale booster. Thanks go to Nick and the staff at Amici’s from all of us on the shift.”
