‘BE switched on’ when it comes to electrical safety.

The plea has been issued to Keighley families as part of a national awareness campaign.

Family Safety Week, which runs until Saturday, spotlights simple measures people can take around the home to protect themselves from dangers.

Supporting the initiative is electrical safety authority, NICEIC.

Spokesman, Darren Staniforth, said: “Electrics are incredibly powerful and potentially dangerous and must be handled correctly.

“Any electrical work in the home should be conducted by a qualified, certified professional. Under no circumstances should householders attempt to carry out their own electrical DIY.

“In terms of the everyday, it’s about operating basic diligence – keeping electrical cords out of reach of children and appliances off when not in use, and never leaving a child unattended when using a device connected to the mains.”
