SUPERMARKET giant Morrisons is distributing items from its stores – including the outlet in Worth Way, Keighley – to restock foodbanks.
And the company’s food-making sites have stepped-up production to boost the operation, running for an extra hour every day.
Last week we reported how Keighley Salvation Army’s foodbank has seen a massive drop in donated goods since the coronavirus crisis began, and other foodbanks have also experienced a slump.
David Potts, for Morrisons, said: “We know foodbanks are finding life very difficult and running our manufacturing sites for an extra hour each day to help restock them is the right decision at this time.
“As a food maker and shopkeeper we are uniquely placed to help.”
In total, Morrisons will distribute £10 million worth of items to foodbanks through the company’s in-store community champions. It is also easing or lifting the purchase limits currently imposed on some items to make it easier for customers to donate.
