KEIGHLEY Big Local volunteers have really cleaned up with their innovative ‘one-hour tidies’.

The success of the 60-minute litter blitzes, held before the coronavirus lockdown, was recently highlighted to Keighley Area Committee.

Members heard about Big Local’s clean-ups in communities across its regeneration zone, which runs from Ingrow to Stockbridge.

Residents had teamed up with council officers to work in short bursts to spruce up their immediate neighbourhoods.

Working with the Rivers Trust, they cleared rubbish from along the River Worth and Stockbridge.

A Bradford Council spokesman said: “The communities involved have included Clover Rise, Red Holt and Dalton Lane, and the activity also provides an opportunity to engage with residents about their local priorities and concerns.

“Children at the Grove Mills complex in Ingrow were so enthusiastic they organised a rota, linked to a reward scheme with a treat of their choice for regular participation.

“This resulted in a disco dome being delivered to the area used during half term.”
