An emotional procession of dozens of delivery drivers took place in Basingstoke this afternoon to honour a man who was killed in a lorry crash.

Father-of-one Marcos Vinicius Martins died following a collision with a grey HGV on Churchill Way on Tuesday.

It is understood the driver had been on duty delivering food for Just Eat and Deliveroo.

He was taken to hospital with head injuries but later died. The 34-year-old man, from Basingstoke, leaves behind a wife and a young daughter.

This afternoon there were touching scenes as a procession of vehicles travelled in convey from Skyline Plaza down to the scene of the accident.

Loved ones gathered at the base of a tree where flowers and tributes have been placed in his memory.

Friends joined together to sing a song in his memory.

In a statement, his wife, daughter and friends said losing Marcos has left a "huge void" in their hearts.

One friend said his daughter would wait up every night for him to return home from work.

In the joint tribute, they said: "The world preaches many surprises. Many make us suffer, bring sadness, pain and grief.

"His [Marcos'] departure, so premature, was one of those unforeseen surprises of destiny that take us off the ground.

"No one could imagine that you would leave us so soon. Those endless conversations that lasted for hours and hours came to an end, always in no hurry and very calm to speak. You left a huge void in our lives and in our hearts."
