FIREFIGHTERS worked through the night to stop a fire spreading on heather moorland near Oldfield.
Six appliances including specialist wildfire units from Keighley and Todmorden spent almost four hours bringing the blaze under control.
They worked alongside local gamekeepers at the scene of the incident, on heathland off Cragg Bottom Road between Scartop and Oakworth.
Fire crews were alerted at 10.45pm on Monday after flames were spotted by a gamekeeper as he went to bed.
John MacDonald, watch commander at Keighley Fire Station, said the cause of the fire was unknown.
He said: “On arrival there was approximately 100m of heath on fire and gamekeepers were already there with their equipment.
“At the height of the incident there were six pumps with two wildfire units from Keighley and Todmorden. We used their all-terrain vehicle with a pressure washer.”
Two fire crews remained through the night watching for hotspots, working with the gamekeepers.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is running the #BeMoorAware to encourage people to help stop wildfires destroying thousands of hectares of countryside in the county each year.
