ONE man was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation following a house fire in Keighley.

The blaze ripped through a bedroom of the semi-detached property in North Dean Road last night.

Crews from Keighley, Silsden and Shipley were called out to deal with the incident, at about 9.45pm.

No one was in the house when they arrived.

The firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reels to bring the blaze under control.

They contained the fire to the bedroom, but there was smoke damage to the whole of the first floor.

A special high-pressure fan was used to help clear the smoke.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A fire service spokesman said there were no smoke detectors fitted in the property.

"Once again we'd like to get the message across about the importance of having smoke alarms," said the spokesman.

"They alert you early if a fire breaks out – saving lives."
