YHA – whose Haworth youth hostel and others are currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic – has launched an online fundraising raffle.

The venture is in support of the association’s Project90 appeal, which aims to raise £500,000 to provide breaks for workers on the frontline in the battle against Covid-19 and their families, and vulnerable young people.

The appeal was launched to celebrate the charity’s 90th anniversary.

It is hoped enough funds will be raised to provide two-day breaks in the next year for up to 5,000 people.

The raffle is being supported by outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Cotswold Outdoor, which has donated a £3,000 first prize and runner-up awards.

Charlie Simpson, for YHA, said: “Like all charities right now we are having a tough time and have had to come-up with new ways to raise much-needed funds for our Project90 appeal to ensure that the people who need a break the most get one.

“In this region, 90 young people and 90 frontline workers and their families will be selected for breaks.

“We’re immensely grateful to Cotswold Outdoor for supporting the raffle and making it possible to make a big difference in people’s lives – now we ask for the public’s support.”

Tickets cost £1 – go to getinvolved.yha.org.uk/fundraising/raffle.

The raffle closes on August 28.
