BOOKWORMS from South Craven and across North Yorkshire have come to the fore during lockdown.
The county council has revealed that nearly 60,000 e-books and e-audio titles have been downloaded from its libraries service since lockdown began. And around 2,000 new members have joined.
Data shows that the most downloaded e-book between early March and the end of May was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, with 252 downloads of the audiobook version. Second was Blue Moon, the 24th book in the Jack Reacher series, with 177 checkouts.
County Councillor Greg White, executive member for customer engagement, praises libraries staff for maintaining a supply of reading material despite the closure of the buildings – including South Craven Community Library at Cross Hills.
“The team has been working extremely hard,” he said.
