CAPTAIN Tom Moore has accepted honorary membership of Keighley Rugby Union Football Club but joked that he could no longer think of playing rugby.

Keighley RUFC was founded in 1920 by old boys of Keighley Grammar School. Present members wanted to share their centenary celebration with a man who is both the UK’s most admired centenarian and an old boy of the Keighley school.

The club wrote to Sir Tom to congratulate him on raising over £35m for the NHS and wish him a happy birthday. They were delighted to receive a response from the man himself.

Sir Tom said: “Thank for your honours, it truly means a lot to me. May your club gain success and I wish you all the best. Sadly, my legs aren’t quite as good so I can no longer think of playing rugby, yet I keenly watch.”

Russ Gibson, Director of Rugby at Keighley RUFC, said: “We are pleased that Sir Tom has accepted honorary membership from the club. He raised a tremendous amount of money and brought the nation together in our hour of need which made everyone at our club tremendously proud.”
