KEIGHLEY will be filled with historic road, rail and water vehicles and vessels at Spring Bank next year.

Keighley Transport Festival will make its comeback on Sunday and Monday, May 30 and 31, following its cancellation this year.

A host of individuals and organisations had planned to come together this summer to present the two-day festival at sites across the town – then Covid-19 hit.

The event has been moved lock, stock and barrel to 2021 with display sites that include Stockbridge Wharf, East Riddlesden Hall, Keighley College, Cliffe Castle, Keighley Town Centre, Keighley Civic Centre, and Rail Story at Ingrow.

Attractions will include historic interpretations displays of transport, including and canal barges and narrow boats, pack horses and horse-drawn coaches and wagons, trolleybuses and motor buses, motorbikes and vintage cars, model and full-size steam railways.

Festival coordinator Graham Mitchell said the 25 partner organisations had spent more than 15 months planning the festival by the time the lockdown was announced.

He said: “Partners have agreed that we must go ahead to deliver what we promised to the community of Keighley, and the obvious date to do this is the same Late May Bank Holiday Weekend as in 2020.

“Despite the fact that we are now still 11 months away from the new date of the festival, the partner organisations remain committed to the project.

“There will be lots of free activity for everyone from dedicated enthusiasts to family groups, with a frequent free-to-users ‘Park & Ride’ bus service linking all the sites.”.

The festival will also include a static display of historic buses and trolleybuses which have operated in public passenger service in Keighley over 60 years from 1913 to 1973. This display will include the newly-constructed replica 1913 Cedes-Stoll single deck trolleybus, Keighley Corporation No. 0, and the cosmetically-restored original 1924 Straker Clough double deck trolleybus, Keighley Corporation No. 5, together with motorbuses which operated in Keighley from the 1930s to the 1970s.

Groups involved include Aire Valley Railway Modellers’ Club, Aire Valley Transport Group, Canal & River Trust, Craven Old Wheels Society, Keighley and District Local History Society, Keighley Big Local, Keighley Bus Museum Trust Keighley Model Railway Club, Keighley Rotary Club, Keighley Town Council, Leeds & Liverpool Canal Society, Museum of Rail Travel, Renaissance Motorcycle Workshop and The Lion’s Den (Shed).
