BERRIEW was not the only place in Powys with a snake issue this week.

While a woman was bitten on the leg in her garden in Montgomeryshire, social media was abuzz – or maybe hissing – in Llanwrtyd Wells on Sunday when an appeal for help finding an apparently escaped python got plenty of people talking.

Before people begin to worry, the reptile has since been found, and did not leave the building.

A post on the Llanwrtyd Wells Updates Facebook page by Amy Jane Martin asked fellow members to look out for her 13-foot reticulated python, which had disappeared from her kitchen.

Some were keen to keep a look out while others were a little less enthusiastic at the prospect of coming across the reptile.

Before the female python was found, Amy had contacted the RSPCA, and her housing association amid widespread concern, before she was able to later reassure people that the snake was still in the building and would not have been able to get out.

Thankfully, 193 Facebook comments later, the non-venomous snake was found and the panic was over – although the owner was keen to stress there was nothing to worry about had anyone chanced upon the python and that the best thing to do would have been to remain calm.

She said: “She is no harm to anyone unless she is threatened

“She really hasn’t got a harmful bone in her body.”
