A FOOD charity that helps young people in Keighley has been awarded £81,000 to support its efforts during the coronavirus outbreak.

Rethink Food is one of 65 charities across England sharing in more than £3.5 million from the Government’s Food Charities Grand Fund.

The grant has helped the charity, based in Leeds and Bradford, provide more than 114,000 meals for people in need in the North-East and Yorkshire.

The payment to Rethink Food has been welcomed by Keighley MP Robbie Moore, who said the fund had provide around 3.2 million meals across England since being launched in May.

The grants provide immediate support to charities helping to feed those suffering from the impacts of coronavirus, including the elderly, those who left home due to domestic abuse, or those struggling financially.

Mr Moore said: “This support has played a crucial role in helping the vital work of charities across my constituency that have worked tirelessly and selflessly to help those in need throughout the pandemic.”
