POPULAR Wharfedale supporter, and former player and treasurer, Martin Scriven has passed away.

‘Scriv’ arrived at the club in the 1960s before taking up the role of treasurer from the 1973/74 season until the 1986/87 campaign.

A great ambassador for the club, he was one of a number of supporters who visited all the grounds cheering on the team.

He also enjoyed the company of the high and mighty in rugby circles.

His dedication will be sadly missed at the club.

Martin’s funeral is at St Wilfrid’s Church, Burnsall and will take place tomorrow at 11am.

With attendance in the church limited to 30, due to covid-19 restrictions, this will be a private family funeral.

If club members wish to pay their respects, they can line the route through the village before the service.

It is understood that the cortege will leave the family home at the top of Hartlington Raikes at 10.40, then cross the Burnsall Bridge to pass the Red Lion and up through the village to the church.
