A NEW discount store set to open within a week has promised to bring 30 jobs to the area.

JTF Mega Discount Warehouses will be opening its doors to eager shoppers next Saturday in Barrow.

The store, which sells furniture, home, DIY, electrical, pet accessories, toys and more, is due to open up in the former PC World building, most recently the home of the Sofa Group furniture store, which has returned to the building it formerly inhabited on Market Street.

The Barrow store will be the discount warehouses' 12th UK store to open, and will also host the country's first discount garden centre.

Bosses have said the store's opening will create up to 30 jobs in the town and give the local job market a welcome boost.

The new Barrow store will feature a range of products from kitchen cupboard essentials and health and beauty products at everyday low prices to mega deals on a wide range of garden and outdoor living, garden care and plants.

The discount retailer, set up over 40 years ago, will open its doors with a grand opening event on Saturday August 15 from 8am which will see the new outlet celebrate with a full day of prizes, giveaways and plenty of mega deals for savvy shoppers.

As well as complimentary scratch cards with 1000 guaranteed prizes for all visitors to the store, the new discount warehouse on Ashburner Way will see the first fifty shoppers to enter the store given the chance to purchase incredible mega deals for only £1.

Free hot drinks and refreshments will also be available outside the new store from 6am ahead of the 8am opening for early birds who want to get in first to make the most of the fantastic deals and giveaways.

Mike Hinchcliffe, chief operating officer, said the company is 'excited' to welcome new faces from Barrow into the store.

He said: “We see Barrow as a key location with an established retail environment and are excited by the opportunity to offer the Barrow community and beyond fantastic value on a range of products.

“As a long-established discount business, many of our existing team members have worked in our other eleven stores for a number of years and we look forward to welcoming many new faces from Barrow into the JTF family."

The store opening is part of the discount brand's ambitious plans to open 50 stores in the next 18 months.
