AN eight-year-old girl has raised more than £1,600 for the Sue Ryder hospice which cared for her late grandfather.

Nell Baker cycled 29 miles, from Settle to Morecambe, in support of Manorlands at Oxenhope.

She chose the distance because her granddad Russ Fearnley, who died in 2015, was born on the 29th – and it is the length of the Anne route in the Manorlands Bronte Sportive cycling event.

Nell, from Bingley, was supported on the ride by her dad Rob and family friends Joanne and Andrew Dean.

And family members, friends and well-wishers were on the promenade at Morecambe to cheer her over the finish line.

Nell’s mum, Erica, said: “To try to put into words what she has achieved is impossible. Nell has been cool, calm and collected and I’m not entirely sure she realises the magnitude of what she’s done. My dad would have been so proud – he was my children’s biggest fan and I’m sure he was sitting on Nell’s shoulder the whole way round.”
