A GIG on a campervan has gone down a storm.

Comedian Tom Binns brought his act to the Ponden Mill wedding venue near Stanbury.

And with indoor gatherings hit by Covid-19 restrictions, he performed from a mobile stage on his VW campervan.

Tom – who viewers of 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown will know as hospital DJ Ivan Brackenbury – was joined on stage by Haworth Festival regular Patrick Monahan and last year’s newbie, Scott Bennett.

Sarah Granby, one of the organisers, said: “My husband, Colin, and I usually spend several days at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival but obviously that wasn’t possible this year.

“When we heard that Tom was looking to take his van anywhere within reason, we came-up with the idea of asking Barbara and Richard Trainer of Ponden Mill if we could use their car park and they agreed – not knowing what they were letting themselves in for!

“Patrick and Scott have been doing regular shows online since lockdown started and were chomping at the bit to do live gigs, so we had the perfect combination for the try-out drive-in comedy gig.

“We followed the Covid-19 guidelines and made it a ticket-only event, with cars parked socially distanced.

“The weather wasn’t perfect, but some people brought picnics and refreshments and sat out in chairs to enjoy the gig.

“To begin with Patrick and Scott were a bit nervous about going up on the vehicle- rooftop stage, but once they gave it a try they were absolutely fine. We had a gazebo on standby in case it was too wet or windy.

“All three of them were on (roof) top form and the audience absolutely loved it. Everyone had a great afternoon.

“Tom said that living in the Peak District he was no stranger to beautiful scenery, but he thought the Worth Valley was something else. He’s already talking about coming back!”
