NEIGHBOURHOOD Watch groups across Keighley are to receive a funding boost.

They will share in a £10,000 support package announced by the West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson.

The money – from his Community Safety Fund reserve – will go to Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators in West Yorkshire to help with items such as signage, member welcome packs, workshops, crime prevention materials and property-marking tools.

Mr Burns-Williamson said: “It’s really important to me that we recognise the significant contribution to community safety made by Neighbourhood Watch groups – and I am very pleased to be able to distribute this extra funding during these difficult times.

“This year also saw the 35th anniversary of Neighbourhood Watch in West Yorkshire and at the time I promised to look at what more support I could offer. This is about delivering on that commitment, in supporting many dedicated volunteers.

“During the unprecedented fallout of Covid-19 issues, Neighbourhood Watch has taken on an even greater role – supporting people who found themselves isolated from friends and family. The groups have a critical role in helping to bring communities together and prevent crime, so it’s doubly important that we provide support for this good work to continue.”
