A DOCTOR at Skipton’s Dyneley House Surgery is about to retire after almost 30 years caring for his patients.

Dr Dr Andrew Sumnall, a senior partner at the surgery in Newmarket Street, says he will miss the contact with so many people, but is looking forward to spending more time with his family and friends.

After meeting his wife, Judith while studying at Oxford University in the 1980s, Dr Sumnall qualified in 1986 and joined doctors Gibson, Craig, Allen, Bundock and Woods at Dyneley House Surgery in January 1991.

Dr Sumnall has been a GP trainer since 1994, and has trained 26 doctors to develop their skills and join general practice to serve their local communities.

He will now hand over the reins to Dr Rachel Pring who has worked as a partner at the practice since 2008.

Dr Sumnall said: “I’m very conscious how fortunate I have been to come to live and work in such a great town as Skipton.

“I have received wonderful support over the last 29 years from my family and colleagues and the patients of Dyneley House. I am confident the surgery is well-placed to meet the challenges that lie ahead. “

He added: “I am very grateful for the kind messages and cards I’ve received over the last few weeks from patients. I will miss the daily contact with so many people but I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and friends”
