CHRIS Whincup, who was born and raised in Skipton but lived in The Netherlands for most of his life, died after a short illness on Sunday October 25, aged 76.
Known to his many Craven friends as ‘Twinque’, Chris was educated at Ermysted’s Grammar School and played rugby for North Ribblesdale RUFC.
On leaving school he worked as a chemist at Johnson and Johnson in Gargrave before moving south to work in the Shell Chemicals laboratory at Egham in Surrey.
In 1975 he took up a scientific position at Shell’s headquarters in Amsterdam, settling in the suburb of Diemen where he lived for the rest of his life.
A frequent visitor to Skipton where he had relatives, Chris loved to travel, especially to the USA. He loved music, wine and steam trains, and was a keen golfer. Chris leaves a widow, Wilma née Oskamp
