TALKS will continue today between West Yorkshire council leaders and Government ministers over what next steps should be taken to tackle rising Covid-19 infection rates in this region.

Last night, the council leaders said in a statement: "This afternoon we met with Government ministers to discuss the worsening Covid-19 infection rate in the region and our proposals to strengthen community engagement, test and trace, and supporting the vulnerable while protecting jobs and livelihoods. Discussions remain ongoing."

Hospital admissions for cases of the virus are continuing to increase and yesterday Airedale Hospital announced it was postponing non-emergency operations, requiring an overnight stay, for two weeks.

West Yorkshire's Covid-19 alert level is currently Tier Two, or 'high risk'.
