TWENTY-eight members of the Band of The Yorkshire Regiment have carried out socially distanced rehearsals to prepare for Remembrance Day.
Recently, the band has collaborated with the Padre of 4th Battalion of The Yorkshire Regiment (Major) Ben Norton, to create a digital Remembrance Day service.
Director of Music, Captain Gary Clegg said: “Getting all 28 musicians in one place whilst observing the rules on social-distancing has been a completely new experience for all of us. Obviously, we have not been able to deliver our usual busy schedule of public and official performances this year, but that has not stopped us from playing together and working towards this [digital] tribute.
“And it’s always a pleasure to work with Padre Ben who recorded his piece in Hull in his own imitable style. Our thanks also go to Regimental secretary, Lieutenant Colonel David O’Kelly, for his solo wreath laying in York.”
The Remembrance Service video opens with music from the band, a short sermon from Padre Ben Norton, the Last Post, the Minutes Silence, Reveille, wreath laying and closes with a musical piece, taken from the popular mini-series Band of Brothers.
In the period leading up to Remembrance, over 90 members of The Yorkshire Regiment will lay wreaths in private ceremonies at war memorials in 28 towns across the region.
