A CAR which was involved in a crash with a bus had failed to stop for police minutes earlier in Keighley town centre, it has been revealed.

The BMW 318d was in collision with a Volvo double-decker on the B6265 Skipton Road, at Utley, just before midnight on Saturday.

The car was heading towards Steeton and the bus, which wasn't carrying any passengers, in the opposite direction.

Police, firefighters and the ambulance service attended and the section of main road close to the Green Head Road junction remained shut on Sunday morning while investigations continued at the scene.

Firefighters from Keighley and Bingley spent about an hour freeing the BMW driver, who was trapped in his vehicle. He was the sole occupant of the car.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening. The bus driver was badly shaken and went to Airedale Hospital.

Due to the involvement of a police vehicle, the Independent Office for Police Conduct has been notified.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened close to Utley Cemetery, or with dashcam footage to come forward.
