A FIVE year old was joined by his mum and dad on a 5km run along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal from Bradley to Skipton.

Henry Whitwam who was born at 28 weeks premature, has joined mum, Catherine, and dad, Matthew, in raising funds for Bliss, a charity which supports families of babies who are born premature or sick.

Last year, his dad completed the London Marathon for Bliss, while Catherine is a volunteer for the charity at Airedale Hospital’s neonatal unit, giving support to parents of premature babies.

Henry’s efforts have raised an impressive £535 for the charity and for Airedale’s Neonatal Unit.

His mum, Catherine, said the coronavirus pandemic had made life even more difficult for parents of premature babies. “Having a premature or sick baby is difficult enough however since Covid hit the UK it has been extremely difficult times for those parents who have babies in the neonatal unit.

“We need to support Bliss more than ever in such unprecedented times. Henry is so excited to achieve his goal of a 5k run and help the charity that have become such an important part of our lives since he was born.”
