TO mark National Tree Week and to commemorate its 90th birthday pupils at Moorfield School in Ilkley decided it would be lovely to plant a tree in the grounds of the school in Ben Rhydding Road.

Mrs Tina Herbert, Head of Moorfield School and Nursery said: “It is so important to think about the future of our planet and planting trees helps combat climate change.

“We have such a beautiful outdoor space here.

“We chose a Rowan Tree for its vivid colours and berries which attract so many different bird species and it will also boost opportunities for wildlife.”

National Tree Week (November 28 to December 6) is the UK’s largest annual tree celebration, marking the start of the winter tree planting season November through to March. The Tree Council first established National Tree Week in March 1975 to support national replanting of trees after the outbreak of Dutch Elm disease.
