COVID-19 vaccinations are to begin in Leeds next week.

The development is part of some long-awaited ‘good news’ that local councillors have just been briefed on.

Councillor Colin Campbell (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon) posted this update on social media: “The Pfizer vaccine has been approved for public use and next week vaccinations will start in Leeds.

“This does not mean everyone will be vaccinated straight away.

“There are a limited number of doses so injections will be prioritised; first will be health care staff followed by those living and working in care homes and the over 80s.

“It looks like only health staff will be vaccinated before Christmas.

“The second bit of good news is that infection rates are falling in Leeds following lockdown - but we still need to remember to wash hands, wear a mask and socially distance.”
