KEIGHLEY’S war memorial was illuminated purple as part of a global initiative celebrating the contribution of disabled workers.

Charity Scope’s Keighley shop and the town council joined forces to show their support for annual Purple Light Up Day, yesterday (December 3).

Denise Stoker, Scope shop manager in Keighley, said: “We were proud to partner with the town council on this year’s Purple Light Up Day, which celebrates the contribution of the 386 million disabled employees around the world. The pandemic and its economic fallout is causing disastrous damage to disability employment.”

Town mayor, Councillor Peter Corkindale, said: “This is an important event for Keighley to be a part of. We have a long tradition of welcoming and supporting all residents. And like Scope, we recognise the invaluable contribution disabled people make in the workplace.”
