A BRICKLAYER said he was sorry for wasting police time after admitting at Skipton Magistrates Court drink driving following a night out.

James Manley, 23, was stopped by police in the early hours of October 9 as he drove along High Street, Sutton -in -Craven, the court heard today (Friday).

The court was told officers were patrolling the area because of a spate of burglaries and had stopped Manley because it was around 3.25am.

Manley had been taking someone home after a night out, had nothing to do with any burglaries and had been in the wrong place at the wrong time, the court heard. Officers smelt alcohol in his breath and he was found to have 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Manley, of Goose Cote Lane, Keighley, of previous good character, was banned from driving for 12 months. He was also fined £350 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £35.

If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, his ban will be reduced by 13 weeks.
