A FAMILY firm based at Silsden is celebrating a hat-trick of awards.

DB Orthodontics has scooped the accolades for its global exports in orthodontic, dental and dental-laboratory products.

The company won the Federation of Small Businesses’ International Business of the Year Award, for Yorkshire and Humberside, and now goes forward to the national final next May.

And it enjoyed success at the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards, winning the Small Business of the Year category before taking the top Exporter of the Year honour – beating over 120 entries from across the north of England. More than 50 businesses were shortlisted in the awards, which were held virtually for the first time.

DB Orthodontics was founded in 1996 by managing director David Burdess, with son Christian, selling a selection of orthodontic products for the UK and Irish market.

David’s daughter, Victoria Coppack, joined the company in 2001.

Over the years, the firm has grown into a 45-employee operation exporting to more than 70 countries.

Product design is carried out at the Silsden headquarters, in Ryefield Way, which also houses sales, warehouse and quality teams.

Victoria, a fellow director with Christian, said: “Hard work and Yorkshire grit definitely contribute to our success.

“We produce innovative products with our clinical advisors. And education is key within our business strategy.

“We’re thrilled that our team’s hard work has been recognised in this way and especially after such a challenging year.”

She said the firm’s “innovative” product development for the orthodontic, dental technology and dental market went hand-in-hand with its education programmes, keeping the company moving forward.

DB Orthodontics says it is looking forward to a bright 2021, building on existing relationships with its worldwide partners.

Tribute was paid to the company at the Northern Powerhouse Awards by Frans Calje, chief executive officer of the headline sponsor PD Ports, who said: “DB Orthodontics distinguish themselves by fighting in a fiercely competitive market and always staying ahead of the curve with continuous innovation.

“Distributing their products to over 70 countries all around the world makes this family-run business an incredibly impressive exporter.”
