A FAMILY that knows more than most about the impact of cancer is urging people to support Candlelighters.

The charity has been supporting children and families who are affected by childhood cancer for more than 40 years. Ellen Atkinson’s family, from Wakefield, are among those who have been helped.

Ellen’s seven year old granddaughter, Isla, was diagnosed with Wilms tumour - a cancer of the kidney - in October, 2019 and relapsed this June. Candlelighters has been there for Isla and her family since her first diagnosis.

Ellen is urging people to support the charity. She said: “Candlelighters helps keep those smiles shining on our children’s faces and lifts the practical and emotional strains from parents’ shoulders. For the children on the wards in the run up to Christmas Candlelighters will be doing all they can to keep the place happy.” To find out more visit www.candlelighters.org.uk/christmas-2020/.
