THE IMPACT of the coronavirus on our turkey eating habits has inspired an Otley man’s illustrated Christmas card.
Jim Garnett has been designing illustrated e-cards and greetings cards on his PC for family and friends for years. But this year’s pandemic inspired him to give a new twist, reflecting on how smaller birds than usual are in demand, to a card featuring his character Turkey.
He said: “Turkey was in one of my early desktop publishing cards before appearing, one New Year, as an e-card I sent out. He then featured on the following Christmas card, which included a short rhyme.
“This time I was struggling with the story when I saw a TV food programme featuring a farmer concerned that he wouldn’t be able to sell the turkeys he had spent all year fattening up, with the semi-lockdown Christmas approaching.
“So I scrapped my first attempt and produced this one.”
