A SCHOOL crossing patrol could be reinstated at Pool-in-Wharfedale - but only if the village picks up the tab.
Pool has been without a school crossing for years but some residents have been pushing for the service - a warden used to help children cross on Main Street - to be re-introduced.
Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) has been given an update on how likely that is to happen. He has been told by a Leeds City Council (LCC) officer that an audit of traffic in the area, to see if a patrol would be justified, could be carried out if requested.
The cost of paying for a patrol, however, would have to be met by the community. A council officer told Cllr Anderson: “If an audit meets the criteria to warrant a School Crossing Patrol (SCP) this will no longer be funded by LCC due to the budget deficit.
“The anticipated annual cost for a SCP would be approximately £4,000 depending upon the number of hours the warden worked.”
