POLICE arrested two drivers who were under the influence of drugs during stepped up patrols on the roads around North West Leeds.

Specialist officers from West Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit worked in partnership with the local neighbourhood policing team to create an increased police presence in areas including Otley, Yeadon and Horsforth.

The action was outlined in a Facebook post from West Yorkshire Police - Leeds North West on Tuesday.

It said: “Where possible, drivers were pulled over, spoken to and educated on safer driving.

“Where enforcement was necessary, Traffic Offence Reports were generated, however the most serious offending resulted in 2x separate arrests for driving while over the prescribed limit.

“These arrests were both due to testing positive for Cannabis but one driver also tested positive for Cocaine, in addition to the Cannabis.”

A police spokesman said: “The consequences of driving whilst under the influence can be catastrophic for the driver and their families but also the innocent people going about their daily lives.”
