A CHARITY has a one-bedroom terraced cottage available at Ingrow.

Hebden Wright Almshouses is seeking applications for residency from single people or couples aged over 60 and currently living in the Ingrow/Hainworth/Hermit Hole area.

The cottage is one of six built in 1925 thanks to a legacy from mill owner Mr Wright, who lived in Halifax Road, Keighley. He died in 1914, aged 71, and is buried at St John’s Church, Ingrow.

A spokesman for the charity said: “Mr Wright was a quiet and unassuming man whose family had links with the former Hermit Hole Methodist Chapel.

“He cared deeply for his fellow man and provided for an annual tea for the elderly of the neighbourhood, as well as leaving bequests to various churches and chapels.”

He also made a bequest for four stained-glass memorial windows at Hermit Hole Chapel, which were sold when the building closed in 1957. The trustees would like to hear from anyone who knows what became of the windows.

The clerk can be contacted on 07984 686880.
