A CHRISTMAS tree recycling scheme raised £21,520 for Manorlands.

Worth Valley Young Farmers Club led a team of volunteers which battled through wintry conditions to carry out a Covid-safe collection of 1,800 trees.

Club chairman Joe Holmes and treasurer Emma Kettlewell were among the team, which also included other current – and former – members.

All proceeds went to the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

Joe said: “We’d like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who booked in their tree for collection, our amazing volunteers, Skipton Self Drive for loaning us vans and Keighley Tree Services for shredding the trees and sending the chippings off to a bio-power station.”

Emma said: “The incredible amount raised will help Sue Ryder to continue to be there when it matters for people going through the most difficult time of their lives.”

Young Farmers caters for people aged ten to 26 and despite its name is not restricted to the farming community – it welcomes members from all backgrounds.
