HOME-shopping giant Damart – whose warehousing facility is at Steeton – has donated £10,000 to support a helpline for isolated older people.
The company has given the cash – through its charity foundation – to the Silver Line, which has seen a surge in demand for its services during the pandemic.
Claire Brown, Damart’s online merchandise manager, said: “As a business we’re passionate about helping older people and so we are delighted to be able to support the Silver Line.
“The charity has experienced overwhelming demand for its services and this money will help ensure those calls can be answered.
“We have partnered with the charity for the past few years and have witnessed the vital work it does to help tackle loneliness among older people, an issue that really resonates with our core customer-base.”
The 24-hour helpline – on 0800 4 70 80 90 – offers free, confidential support to older people.
