SEARCH and rescue volunteers who cover Keighley and the Worth Valley have issued a plea to the public.

The Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team is urging people to adhere to Government lockdown restrictions and only exercise close to their homes.

There have been incidents in some parts of the country where people flouting Covid-19 guidelines have got into difficulty and needed rescuing.

“We would like to remind our local community to please adhere to the Government lockdown restrictions,” said a spokesman for the Calder Valley team.

“Now is not the time to be venturing into the more remote parts of our countryside and potentially putting yourself in harm’s way.”

The team says when people do get back out into the countryside again, they should ensure they’re properly prepared for their trip and know what to do in the case of an accident or getting into difficulties. Always check weather forecasts.

The spokesman adds: “Please ask yourself do you have the knowledge and skills to accomplish the day? Do you have the right gear and spare kit if the weather changes or night falls? Does anyone know your plans for the day?

“By planning ahead, preparing well and being aware of your environment, you could prevent an accident or should the worst happen, save your life.”
