A KEIGHLEY garage is taking part in an electric-vehicle trial.

Great Northern Cars is among West Yorkshire businesses participating in the two-month initiative, launched by Leeds City Council in partnership with Highways England.

Under the scheme, companies have free use of electric vans fitted with equipment to collate journey and charging data.

Users then receive a tailored report outlining the findings and highlighting the environmental and potential financial benefits that transitioning to electric vehicles could generate.

Great Northern Cars directors Derek Mason and Ian Smith say they are keen to play their part in reducing damage to the environment for future generations.

“Through this trial we can compare running costs of traditional vehicles against zero-emission options,” said Mr Mason.

“We have also recently invested over £75,000 in updating our recovery truck fleet to reduce emissions.”
