FIREFIGHTERS tackled a kitchen blaze at a house in Keighley.

Crews from Keighley, Bingley and Shipley were called out to the incident – in Malsis Road – shortly before 8am today.

The terrace house was unoccupied at the time and the alarm was raised by a neighbour, who heard a smoke detector sounding in the property.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel jet to bring the blaze under control.

A special high-pressure fan was also brought in, to help clear smoke from the building.

The fire was contained to the kitchen but there was smoke damage to the rest of the house.

Watch commander Ahsan Ali, of Keighley fire station, said: "Once again this incident showed the importance of having working smoke alarms fitted in your property.

"Although the house was unoccupied, the alarm was heard by a neighbour who alerted us and the fire was caught relatively early."

The cause of the blaze was believed to be an electrical fault.
