KEIGHLEY people who have still to complete their census form can do so online until May 17.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) says that across England and Wales, 97 per cent of households have responded to the survey.

“This is an amazing response – exceeding our pre-census target of 94 per cent,” says Iain Bell, deputy national statistician with the ONS.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has filled out their form so far – as well as all the community groups, organisations and local authorities that have helped us make this census a success.”

After the online facility closes on May 17, only paper questionnaires will be available.

Anyone who has lost their census letter should go to census.gov.uk to request an online completion code for their address.

People who refuse to take part could be taken to court and issued with a £1,000 fine and criminal record. The census non-compliance operation begins on May 25.

Mr Bell added: “Extensive community engagement is continuing to make sure all groups of the population are represented in the census. Students, for example, need to ensure they have completed a questionnaire for their term-time address to help get the services they need in their university town. Students should complete a form even if they were included on their family form at home.”
