A BRADFORD man, who gave police false details to avoid speeding convictions, has been sent to jail.

Jean Claude Iyoma, 54, of Gondal Court, told officers that three different people had been behind the wheel of his vehicles when they were caught speeding on separate occasions between 2017 and 2019.

Police made extensive attempts to trace the people named, all of whom Iyoma claimed to be foreign nationals. No records of their existence could be found.

Upon further questioning, Iyoma could not provide an account of how or why they had been behind the wheel of his vehicles.

Iyoma, who admitted perverting the course of justice at an earlier hearing was jailed for eight months at Bradford Crown Court, today.

Speaking after sentencing, Rachel Wainwright from West Yorkshire Police’s Prosecutions and Casualty Prevention Unit: “Iyoma provided false information to police in the hope he could get away with it.

“The sentence reflects the fact we will not tolerate people trying to evade prosecution for poor driving on our roads.

“It shows the seriousness of Iyoma’s offending and I hope this serves as a deterrent to other people who think they can disobey the law.”
