LATEST NEWS:

A CAR has been badly damaged after a collision with a wall on a commuter road where another vehicle flipped onto its roof just days ago.

Police have closed Apperley Lane (A658) this evening between its junction with Micklefield Lane (B6152), at the traffic lights near Rawdon, and Walk Hill Farm, with a cordon in place.

The crash, first reported by the AA at 8.51pm, is believed to have happened near the road's junction with Cliffe Drive.

A man, who was on a bus heading towards Apperley Bridge, said passengers had to get off the vehicle and walk to their destinations, after coming to a halt at the site of the collision.

He said there was a BMW that was badly damaged, with "loads of ambulances" and police cars.

A wall was also broken in two places.

The man said: "I was on a bus, there were loads of ambulances, CID and police cars.

"The wall was broken down in two places.

"There was a large amount of damage to the front and back of the car, no one was in the car when we walked past.

"I gather they were in the ambulance which was next to it, which drove off with blue lights.

"It was just off Cliffe Drive."

The police cordon remained in place late into Tuesday evening.

The collision comes just three days after a vehicle overturned onto his roof on the same road, just outside the JCT600 head office.
