A NEIGHBOUR who raised the alarm after spotting a fire at the back of houses has been praised.

He responded after noticing flames at the rear of Redcliffe Street, Keighley, this afternoon.

Firefighters from Keighley, Bingley and Bradford were called out to the incident, just after 2pm.

"This young man noticed the fire in its early stages and raised the alarm – then helped evacuate people from their house," said crew commander Dom Creed, of Keighley fire station.

"He deserves praise for his quick actions."

The fire affected artificial turf, fencing and outbuildings at the rear and there was some external heat damage to the property, but the firefighters – who wore breathing apparatus and used three water jets to tackle the blaze – stopped it spreading inside the house.

Crews spent nearly two hours at the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
