A KEIGHLEY couple are cock-a-hoop after winning their first-ever poultry championship.

Joe and Enid Procter topped the pecking order with their birds at the Craven Premier Poultry show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart – the first to be held live since March last year.

The first prize and champion pen of large fowl in the show classes were secured by Mr and Mrs Procter with a trio of 2020 Rhode Island Red – a cockerel and two hens.

The birds achieved a sale top price of £50.

Mr and Mrs Procter also took the second prize for a pen of large fowl with another trio of Rhode Island Red, which sold for £45.

The couple – who celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary this year – also breed Silver Laced Wyandottes, White Silkies and Light Sussex.

Mr Procter has been keeping poultry since he was a youngster.

The show and sale featured a total of 229 lots of bantams, large fowl and waterfowl.

Show judge was Margaret Watkinson, of Hutton Sessay.
