HOW important is it to support local businesses? For me this has always been a priority because for our local economy to grow, local support is essential.

However I am finding it more of a struggle, simply down to the fact several local shops, cafes and businesses don't seem to be aware of the way this pandemic has changed our lives and times. How they need to operate from this point must be reassessed.

There are three examples from recent weeks. One a kitchen supply company would only accept a card to pay for the fittings yet part of its service is to undertake the actual fitting. They expected their fitters to be paid separately and would not guarantee this work. Secondly a cafe like so many other businesses in Keighley will accept only cash. When I challenged this, I was told "we have only ever done this". Society by and large is becoming a cashless society in no small part due to the pandemic. Our Government repeatedly asks us to use our cards. Some local businesses have a permanent sign reading our card machine is out of order, please pay cash.

Finally delivery seems to be a problem, but again while many have adapted, so many haven't.

Local businesses wake-up, look at how society is now and rethink your strategy because local people like me will draw a line no matter how much we would like to and want to support you.
