A SCHOOL has launched a fundraising initiative to buy new books.

Oxenhope Primary is seeking to acquire 1,180 books to help deliver the school curriculum.

And the fundraising target is £3,000.

The school is holding a raffle to help coin-in cash.

Headteacher, Mrs Alice Jones, said many prizes had already been donated and she paid tribute to the community for rallying round in support.

“It’s amazing how generous people in the community have been,” she said.

“We have received many donations in the form of prizes for our raffle.

“I want to say a massive ‘thank you’ to all those businesses and groups which have donated.

“This really will help to improve the learning and outcomes in our school for our children.

“Early reading and phonics is an area that we hold in high importance at Oxenhope Primary.

“We are keen to ensure that our children are excited and enthused to read.”

The deadline for donations of raffle prizes is next Wednesday (July 7).

Tickets for the raffle will be sold in the week beginning July 19, and winners will be drawn later that week.

Anyone wishing to support the 204-pupil school in its fundraising efforts can contact the office on 01535 642271.

Oxenhope Primary, part of the Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust, is rated good by Ofsted.

In the last short inspection, Ofsted said the school leadership team had maintained a good quality of education.

Staff felt fully involved in the planning and execution of the school’s “continued improvement” and parents were “very supportive”. The school was effectively supported by the governing body and the academies trust.
