SUPPORT is growing for a region-wide campaign to tackle racism.
More than 350 organisations – including Keighley Cougars – have now pledged their backing for the initiative, which begins at the end of next month.
Behind the scheme are the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Health and Care Partnership and West Yorkshire’s violence reduction unit.
Experiences and views of ethnic minority staff will be spotlighted.
Images will be displayed at outdoor locations and on buses and across social media, with the hashtag #WYHRootOutRacism.
And there will be a range of educational resources.
Councillor Shabir Pandor, an ambassador for the venture, said: “I’m delighted that over 350 organisations and community champions have pledged their support ready for the launch. I’m urging everyone to get involved so together we can root out racism.”
Cougars rugby league player Jake Webster, a New Zealand international, said: “At Cougars we celebrate individual stories – including gender, race and sexuality. We encourage our workers/players to ask questions and speak to others to understand different cultures. Coming from another country, I have seen racism from a different perspective and understand the problems it can cause.”
