ROBIN Longbottom’s Down Memory Lane article (Keighley News, October 14) on local thatched homes was very interesting, as I had never previously associated these buildings with this district.
An undated watercolour painting by the Silsden artist, Joseph West (1881-1958), shows such a cottage with its typical steep-sloping thatched roof. As West painted many local scenes, I wonder if anyone recognises where this building may have been located?
Joseph West was active as a professional artist from 1911 to the early 1950s, so this building would have undoubtedly stood out locally in the 20th century as one of a rapidly vanishing breed.
