A VILLAGE post office is set to close.

The branch at Elmsley Street, in Steeton, is due to shut in March.

A planning application to change the use of the post office – and a shop, the Fruit Bowl – on the ground floor of the premises to residential has been submitted to Bradford Council.

A spokesperson for Post Office Ltd confirmed: "The postmaster for Steeton has resigned and the branch is due to close in mid March. An alternative post office is Eastburn."

Residents have taken to social media to voice their concerns.

And the chair of Steeton-with-Eastburn Parish Council, Councillor David Mullen, has spoken out.

He has voiced fears for elderly residents in particular, who may struggle to get to Eastburn post office.
